May 28th, The OSH Forum is co-organizing alongside the University of Geneva and Humanity and inclusion a session during the Geneva Health Forum on: Operationalizing One Health and Planetary Health in humanitarian settings: research and practice. This round table will gather experts from different domains and discuss different strategies on how to operationalize the two approaches.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Climate change, natural disasters, and additional disruptions linked to global environmental changes are the root causes of many ongoing global humanitarian crises and intensify their impact and reach.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n

The COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing global environmental crisis call for a joint effort of different fields such as human, animal, and environmental health. One Health and Planetary health precisely advocate for a holistic approach that promotes a comprehensive and preventive health strategy, increasingly infiltrating within the humanitarian sector and introducing new prospects and challenges for their implementation.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n

Supported by a grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), the first workshop on this subject took place in Geneva in November 2023. This event gathered 38 experts and practitioners from 21 different organizations, establishing a foundation for continuous dialogue and budding partnerships between academic and humanitarian groups.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n

The upcoming second workshop will first focus on the ongoing research and initiatives, followed by a thought-provoking panel discussion. The session aims to act as a forum to share and deliberate on findings, suggestions, and strategies for implementing One Health and Planetary Health in humanitarian contexts. It will further evaluate the interest across a wider, cross-sectoral group and pinpoint opportunities for funding and project initiation in this area.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
